The squoval nail shape is a crowd-pleaser, merging the neatness of a square shape with the softness of an oval.

Given away by the name, the shape is a square-oval hybrid. It replicates the shape of a ‘natural’ nail – creating a soft and subtle finish, which can be achieved on long or short nails.

Here’s seven ways to rock a squoval manicure…

Negative space

This vibrant, multi-coloured manicure balances the soft squoval shape with bold hues to make a statement. Colour blocks carve out areas of negative space for a fun finish by @amberjnails.

Full colour

Pair the versatile shape with your favourite hue for a soft and subtle nail look. A trendy black cherry hue was used by @aprildamsbeauty for her client – a colour dominating client requests this season.

Micro French tips

The squoval shape also forms the perfect base for a micro French manicure, like this by @beautologynewcastle. The combination of the soft shaping and mini coloured tips is the definition of a ‘very demure’ nail design.

Barely there

The natural-looking finish of the squoval shape merged with a neutral hue offers the perfect formula to achieve the ‘natural but better’ look. This effect was successfully achieved by @gelpolish_bar with this ‘ballet slipper’ manicure.
